Three note-issuing banks
In Hong Kong, there are three banks in response to issue notes in Hong Kong. They are HSBC, Bank of China as well as Standard Chartered. These three banks also known as three note-issuing banks.
All coins and note are issued under the supervision of Hong Kong government.
Notes in Hong Kong
Generally speaking, there are 6 different denominations of notes in everyday circulation : $10, $20, $50, $100, $500 and $1,000. In fact, there is a easy way to recognize them by their standard color as follow:
$1000: yellowish gold
$500: brown
$100: red
$50: green
$20: blue
$10: purple
It is important to notice that, the three note issuing banks had launched three version of notes in 2003, 2010 and 2018 respectively. Thus, there are totally 9 different forms of notes in each denominations. They are all legal to use in Hong Kong.

On the other hand, there are 7 different denominations of coins in everyday circulation :$10, $5, $2, $1, 50 cents, 20 cents and 10 cents. All of them are issued by the government.

Specials Addition notes in Hong Kong
In order to commemorate on the 150th Anniversary, HKBC and Standard Chartered had issued $150 notes in 2015 and 2009 correspondingly. They are legal to use in Hong Kong.
